Across cultures, when the temperature drops and winter rolls around, we reach for ginger. Here in the states, around the holidays we most commonly have ginger in the form of gingerbread cookies and gingerbread houses. It's a spice that has been used in traditional medicine to combat colds and to boost energy.
In my home, we make an herbal ginger tea with dried dates to warm up the body and cleanse the system, especially when we feel the onset of a cold or flu.

- Lowers cholesterol and blood sugar
Family: Phoenix dactylifera
- Iron and calcium rich
- Rich in fibre and acts as a natural laxative
- Increases energy level
- Dried Dates
Place all three ingredients in your kettle and boil on high. Once the concoction has boiled, simmer on low for 15 minutes.
Time-saving tip: Cut up ginger in advance and infuse it with honey. Seal in an air tight container and it will last for about a month in the fridge. When you're craving a soothing yet energizing drink, you'll have your ginger and honey ready to go. Should you feel under the weather and want a boost of Vitamin C, replace dates with lemon.
